Closer to home, the Bike Bug Next-Gen girls were racing in the Tour of Mansfield. Over two days of racing through the Victorian high country, the girls had perfect conditions. Margeaux Thompson finished near the top placing 11th overall with the others not far behind. A great result for the team!

Ironman Melbourne was a massive event on Sunday. PROJECT was excited to have new ambassador Luke Bell racing, complete with his new PROJECT Supersuit! A tough race ensued with Luke coming out of the swim to enter the lead group on the bike. A battle on the bike and through the run, Luke’s effort was sensational and finished with an overall position of 14th. Towards the end of the race, strategy changed with focus on technique and finishing well, not burning out for the upcoming Port Macquarie Ironman in May. You can view Luke’s pre-race interview here.

Luke Bell is Project Clothing’s newest Ambassador!

Media Release:

PROJECT Clothing Signs Pro Long Course Triathlete ‘Aussie’ Luke Bell

MELBOURNE, March 18 2015 – Australia’s rapidly growing performance compression and endurance apparel brand PROJECT Clothing (PROJECT), has welcomed another champion to its portfolio of brand Ambassadors. This time, celebrated long course triathlete Luke Bell (‘Aussie Luke’) has joined team PROJECT just in time for this weekend’s 4th annual IRONMAN® Asia Pacific Championship in Melbourne.

In a comprehensive three year deal, Bell will train, compete and recover in PROJECT’s elite apparel including triathlon, cycle, run and compression, in addition to utilizing the brand’s accessories and travel equipment through until February 28, 2018.

Born in Portland, Victoria, Bell now calls Melbourne home, with annual training stints in San Diego, California (USA) through the Australian winter. Specializing in long course triathlons, particularly half and full Iron distance, Bell’s impressive career has included 5th place at the 2003 Hawaii IRONMAN® World Championships, first places at IRONMAN® Australia and the IRONMAN® North American Championships – Mont Tremblant, Canada, plus silver podium finishes at IRONMAN® Australia, Braziland New Zealand. He has also won 19 half-ironman races, including California, Shepparton and Tasmania.

This year, Bell’s racing lineup in the lead to the 2015 Hawaii World Championships will include, but not be limited to, the likes of Challenge Taiwan, Challenge Quassy half, IRONMAN® Vineman and Racine 70.3, Challenge Oman plus the Sunshine Coast 70.3.

Staring down the barrel of such grueling training and race demands, 35 year-old Bell is eager to get his new PROJECT partnership under way.

“When you’re out in the elements racing anywhere between four to eight-plus hours, it’s critical to ensure you’re taking care of your body every which way possible,” said Bell.

“Anything that is a contact point with the body is critical – it must be comfortable, irritation-free, and allow you to race with absolute freedom. PROJECT apparel does exactly that. From the moment you put it on, there’s no second thought about it until you cross the finish line. It allows me to focus on racing, and racing alone.”

Equally thrilled with the new alliance is PROJECT Founding Director and long time Bell fan, Graeme Clarke.

“PROJECT is delighted to be partnering with Luke Bell, one of Australia’s most revered long course triathletes, both on and off the course,” said Clarke.

“We look for high performance athletes with a steadfast commitment to their code and a respect for its communities. Luke is a true leader in that regard – we admire his successes, and the way he has gone about achieving them. Supported by PROJECT, we know Luke’s career will only escalate further from here,” he said.

This Sunday March 22, Bell will race Melbourne’s IRONMAN® Asia Pacific Championship for the third time, but the first as a PROJECT Ambassador. Also making its debut will be the new 2015 PROJECT Super Trisuit, Bell’s garment of choice for this weekend’s event. With a dual fabric matrix for the ultimate performance, the new Super Trisuit is engineered with PROJECT sport and compression fabrics. Intelligently mapped to the body, PROJECT Sport cools the torso by reflecting harmful UV rays, while PROJECT Compression paneling on the lower body stabilizes key muscles and minimize fatigue as much as possible. In 2015, the PROJECT Super Trisuit will also be worn by fellow PROJECT talents including Ryan Bailie and Emma Jackson.

Part of Bell’s official partnership with PROJECT will also include the development of an exclusive new Luke Bell PROJECT Pro Series line of triathlon apparel. The collaboration will see Bell work alongside the PROJECT apparel team to design, test, engineer and market his preferred range of garments – all available for fans, budding triathletes and fellow professional athletes to purchase alike.
